Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or to remain asleep long enough to feel rested, especially when this is a problem that continues over time. Most people have a sleepless night once in a while but for some people, sleeplessness is habitual and they walk around half asleep, groggy or just miserable. Without enough sleep, the entire day goes lousy and we function poorly. And if sleepless nights continue for a longer term, we forget to enjoy life.

Sleeping pills only work on a short term basis and it would work well if you suffer serious issues like loss of a closed relatives, or getting a divorce. Sleeping pills are very addictive and hence they are only good for short term usage, not long term. Don’t even think about that little pill can cure your insomnia once and for all.
To get some good night sleep, you should not consume caffeine which includes coffee, coke, tea and chocolate, as well as sugar. You should also be cautious that your medication like most diet pills and sinus pills are likely to put you on hyper active mode which will make you awake longer.
Never ever take alcohol with sleeping pills. It’s lethal to take sleeping pill and alcohol together and the false belief that it can help you relax is wrong. Mixing alcohol and sleeping pills are extremely dangerous.
Furthermore, don’t overeat and give yourself ample of time to digest your dinner before you go to bed. Try not to drink water or other liquid at least thirty minutes before your sleeping time.
Don’t take afternoon nap longer than 30 minutes during the day if you can’t sleep at night. Taking long nap will be likely confusing to your body sleep clock and therefore make you hard to fall asleep at night.
Avoid watching TV or computer while on the bed and trying to sleep if you are suffering from insomnia. TV will only delay your sleep.
If you are not physically active, you should start exercising during the day and avoid exercising at least 60 minutes before bed time.
