Ministry of Community, Family & Children's Services (MCF&CS)

.

Read a letter written by the Minister of MCF&CS, Brenda Elliot:

What the Minister claims:
  • Under the ministry's Supports to Employment Program, the amount of earnings that a family can keep without deduction was increased from $185 under FBA to $235 per month.
What the Ministry actually does:

The MCF&CS now deducts $76.85 per month for excess earnings because the disabled person declared ernings equal to about $230 a month.

The MCF&CS will not pay for prescribed medical or dental treatment.

The MCF&CS will not allow the disabled person to retain earnings to purchase prescribed medical items or to purchase and equip a safe workplace.

What the ???

While the Minister claims that "ODSP provides a broad range of employment supports to asist people with disabilities to prepare for, obtain or maintain employment", the Ministry bureaucrats are actually increasing barriers to employment. They refuse to pay for prescriptions and not only do they claw back what little earnings are made, they absolutely refuse to allow the disabled person to retain earnings for prescriptions and a safe workplace.

. . . . and they call this assistance!
What the Minister claims:
  • Under ODSP, compensation awards for pain and suffering, inheritances held in trust and the cash surrender value of life insurance policies are exempt as assets up to $100,000.
What the Ministry actually does: The MCF&CS is deducting $93.15 per month for overpayment due to a WSIB Non Economic Loss compensation award. The NEL award is an insurance settlement for non-economic loss equivalent to pain and suffering.

The MCF&CS also knows that the Future Economic Loss income award was denied.

What the ??? While the Minister claims one thing, the bureaucrats do quite another. The summary exclusion of one particular legal direction for another that is used to deny a benefit becomes an indicator of extreme prejudice and collusion to deliberately circumvent and obscure one part of the Act in favour of another.
. . . and this is just the begining!
