BOONDOGGLE

Taxes are increasing, services are decreasing, bureaucracy is somewhat remiss, and if challenged refer us to our politicians. Nevertheless, unemployment is almost double that of the USA. Tax rates are almost double that of the USA. The Canadian dollar hovers between 65-75% of the American dollar. Hundreds of street people are mainly youth. Others displaced by job loss, injury and illness rely on shrinking social services, a fertilizer of poverty in one of the richest countries in the world.

Election promises of a secure health care system manifested as reduced transfer payments and provincial discord. Doctors and health care workers go on strike one Province after another as their shortened contracts expire and resources dwindle while demand increases. Examples of this security found in Toronto where in a single day 12 patients were turned away from hospital ERS and at least one homeless person was reported dead.

Another election promise to eliminate the GST instead was obscured by a substantial increase in CPP and EI. Instead of having CPP and EI vested in Canadian employees, the money has been grabbed by the Federal Government. Politicians maintain additional CPP payments are required for a 400 or 500 million short fall but does this require a 15% increase per person, almost $150 for each employee. Assuming about 10 million employees, the remittance is about 1.5 billion dollars a year and the employers match this. So, is this nominal 3 billion dollar levy required to fund a 400-500 million dollar shortfall? This is only year one. After year two thats 6 billion dollars and in year three 9 billion. At year five it levels off at 15 billion to do what, cover a 400 million shortfall?

This does not take into account the increase in EI premiums. This does not take into consideration the increased GST revenue. This does not account for the downloading of revenue to the Provinces. At least it has been able to fund the Human Resources Canada BOONDOGGLE.
